4 Ways to Create a More Peaceful Home
When life gets hectic, you just want to relax at home. But you need a tranquil living space if you truly want to leave stress at the door – and your home décor plays a role in that. Consider these four tips for creating more peaceful rooms where you’ll be able to let your cares melt away.
1 | De-Clutter and Stay Organized
With messy piles and disorganized rooms, you’re bound to feel more chaotic and stressed out. To make your space more calming, tidy up by clearing clutter. Get rid of items you don’t love and organize what’s left. We suggest finding home décor pieces that are both stylish and functional. Some of our favorite ideas for organization and storage, with farmhouse flair, are:
Shelves – Adding shelves to your kitchen, pantry, laundry room, bathroom, or living room will help you accomplish your de-cluttering goals, while also adding a decorative element. For example, this natural wood hexagon shelf is a unique design and a perfect way to get your coffee mugs off the counter. Be careful not to stuff your shelves too full, though, or you’ll still have a clutter problem.
Tins & Tubs – Use vintage tins as creative containers to organize supplies, like cooking utensils, crafting items, and office supplies. Galvanized metal tubs are great storage tools, too. Use them for books and magazines, your kids’ toys, pet supplies, etc.
Baskets – Baskets can serve the same purpose – from tobacco baskets to wire baskets. Small baskets are great to organize your remotes, mail, pens, and other small objects. Larger baskets can be used for organization in any room, including toiletries and towels in the bathroom, shoes in your bedroom, and paperwork in your office. They’re perfect tools for organizing your closets. In the kitchen, baskets can hold fruit or keep all those potholders and tea towels tidy and easy to access.
Storage Chests – Storage chests like these are great for storing blankets or items that you use occasionally. They can even double as a side table – just add you favorite lamp, book, drink, or floral arrangement.
2 | Place Florals Throughout Your Home
Speaking of floral arrangements, bringing the outside in is a great way to create a sense of calm throughout your home. Fresh flowers and live plants are nice, especially in spring and summer, but they require maintenance. Faux florals and everyday greenery, like this arrangement of purple anemone stems and grass, can be used year-round in every room. Choose the types of flowers, and the color schemes, that bring you a feeling of serenity.
3| Keep Cozy Throws Within Reach
There’s just something about a luxurious, soft throw that’s comforting. Keep a throw within reach of any sitting area, whether it’s your living room, family room, or bedroom. Place them on the back of your couch or chairs for easy access or put them in a basket or storage bin within arm’s reach so you’ll always feel warm and cozy.
