Time to Start Thinking About Your Farmhouse Holiday Decor

Ok, so it’s not even Halloween yet. But the spooky season will soon give way to the giving season and it’s not too early to start thinking about decorating your home for the holidays.

In fact, save the date! From Oct. 26 to Oct. 31, Prairie in Bloom is hosting a Holiday Sneak Peek, giving you the first look at our entire Christmas collection in our Omaha, Nebraska, store on the corner of 17th and Cuming Streets.

As you begin to transition your home décor for the most wonderful time of year, think about what art, florals, accent pieces, and linens will help you create a warm, welcoming, and festive space for the season.

Must-Have Farmhouse Christmas Décor

Here are some of our favorite holiday farmhouse ideas:

Wall décor & signs – We love wall décor that spreads messages of joy, peace, love, and family. Think about hanging a seasonal print or inspirational sign on your wall. If you don’t have any wall space open, make it part of your display on your fireplace mantel. If you’re going for a more light-hearted feel, search for a humorous holiday sign that will give your holiday guests a giggle.

Seasonal florals – Switch out your fall floral arrangements to seasonal greenery and add wreaths, candle rings, garlands, half orbs, and mistletoe to staircases, mantels, tables, and entryways. Choose frosted pieces for a beautiful, classic winter display. Add berries, pinecones, and other natural elements to pine sprays and stems and place in holiday-themed vases or a dough bowl. Also remember that wreaths aren’t just for your front door. Put one in a window, on a closet door or mirror, or in combination with a wooden frame to make a statement piece.

Holiday-themed figurines and accents – We recommend finding some whimsical accent pieces for your farmhouse Christmas décor. Christmas gnomes are incredibly popular, but so are the traditional snowflakes, stars, bells, snowmen, and Santa décor. For farmhouse flair, choose figurines and accents made of natural wood or galvanized metal.

Plush pillows and throws – You want your home to be cozy for the holidays and the entire winter season. Switch out your pillows and throws in your living spaces, opting for more plush and comfy options. Of course, we also love decorative pillows with holiday-themed messages, like “Let it Snow” or “Merry Christmas.”

Holiday Color Schemes

In terms of color schemes, red, green, and blue are traditional Christmas colors and you can’t go wrong with those. But neutrals – whites, grays, silvers, golds, and browns – are a great complement to the traditional seasonal hues and add sophistication to your décor.
